Sorry to change plans, but we will not be able to attend Tuesday Ithaca market at Dewitt Park the rest of the fall. Shannon now has a new job as director of the Edith B. Ford Memorial Library in Ovid, New York and with orchard harvest, upkeep and a two year old it was next to imposible. We will be at the Saturday Ithaca Market at the Steamboat Landing through October (9am to 3pm) and the farmstand is open seven days a week from 8am till dusk.

We will be at the Lively Run Goat Dairy Summerfest on Saturday the 22nd with Fruit to sell and Jam/Jelly tastings. We will be back to the Tuesday Ithaca Market at Dewitt Park on the 25th and Saturday Ithaca Market on the 29th of August and continuing through September and October. We will have St. Edmund’s Russet Apples, Harrow Delight Pears, Superior Plums, Vanier Plums and Harrow Diamond Peaches. May have a few other surprises in August. The farm stand will also open back up on Monday August 24th.

We will be taking a break from the Ithaca Farmer’s Market and the T-burg Farmer’s Market for a few weeks. We will have apples, pears and some plums when we come back at the end of August. Starting Tuesday the 25th of August at Dewitt Park and Saturday the 29th at Steamboat Landing. Wednesday the 26th at T-burg. St. Edmund’s Russet is the first of the apple varieties and Harrow Delight the first of the pears. Thanks to all our loyal patrons during the berry season, see you with the tree fruits in fall.

We should have a few half pints of Hinnomaki Red gooseberries and Ben Serak Black Currants. Red raspberries, black raspberries and the sweet Early Golden Plums will be on the table. We’ll also be at the T-Burg market on Wednesday!

Look for us at booth 86 at Saturday’s market this week. We will have the last of our gooseberries and black currants. We’ll have red and black raspberries and Early Golden plums which are sweet and juicy!

Interst in our 2010 fruit CSA is high. We will be evaluating our harvest notes at the end of our apple and pear season and sending an email to all interested families. picking, picking, picking….for Tuesday market we will have more Rovada red currants, black currants (want to make jam or freeze a bunch? ask about the ribes rebate), our red raspberries are finally producing quantity so look for more of these (the Boyne variety is recommened for freezing), a smaller amount of black raspberries, 4-5 varieties of gooseberries, and the Early Golden Plums should be ripe. They are just juicy and sweet. We may also have a small supply of sea berries on hand. You need to taste them to believe them.
Gooseberries and currants are great freezing fruit. The smaller berries are great in pancakes and waffles (as are the duck eggs), for baking in muffins and bread, and the larger berries are great in hot oatmeal and smoothies. Get your vitamin C all winter.
